Crucial Crew
Over 700 pupils have taken part in a community safety educational extravaganza in Colchester. Crucial Crew, an annual event organised by the Colchester Safety Partnership, offers ten and 11-year-olds an exciting series of scenarios to raise their awareness of various dangers.
This year’s multi-agency event ran from Weston Homes Community Stadium over throughout this week, from Monday, June 14 to Friday, June 18.
Pupils from schools across the district attended the event, which included sessions on alcohol, burglary, shoplifting, fire safety, home safety, smoking, antisocial behaviour and road safety.
Chief Inspector Andy Fusher said: “The scenarios at Crucial Crew are a brilliant way of getting important messages through to kids. It’s a fun and exciting few hours for them and they’ll learn a considerable amount along the way. It’s also a chance for us to show them that officers are approachable, friendly and there to help. Hopefully they will learn that we’re not just a person in uniform who simply tells people off when they break the law,” he added.
Councillor Tim Young said: “Key life skills are essential for keeping safe and Crucial Crew delivers these necessary factors in an exciting yet informative format. We are all looking forward to another successful Crucial Crew this year. We hope that all the children take on board the importance of their safety and wellbeing and also have an enjoyable time.”
The team wish to thank Waitrose who kindly provided lunches throughout the week.
