COMMUNITY ACTION
The Colchester Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership’s (CCDRP) aim is to continue building a safe, just and tolerant society, protect the public and ensure the balance between the rights and responsibilities of individuals, families and communities is properly maintained.
The CCDRP is responsible for driving forward longer term solutions to address crime reduction in Colchester in line with the Safer Communities Strategy as well as the local Police strategy.
We can only deal with crime by working effectively with our communities. It is a key priority that we work effectively with local residents, businesses and community groups. The CCDRP is keen to increase involvement from all sections of the community and especially those who are affected by crime and disorder but have not had full access to our services and are at risk of social exclusion.
We recognise that there are some excellent ideas being generated by our communities about how to make Colchester a safer place in which to live, visit, study, learn and work. Some of these have been supported by the Community Safety Partnership’s grants scheme and delivered by local people who are committed to making a difference in their communities.
We acknowledge those who take the time to let us know what is not working and what has changed. This feedback, through consultation, public meetings, phone calls or e-mails is important as it lets us know where we need to improve services.
There are several ways that you can get involved. These are listed below.
Neighbourhoods Action Panels
Neighbourhood Action Panels which are led by a community panel of local residents, community leaders/groups, councilors, council officers, police, etc invited to join the panels and attend regular meetings to discuss the community safety issues that matter to them and how to resolve the issues raised.
Police Community and Consultative Group (PCCG)
The Consultative Group is an independent forum, comprising of representatives of a wide range of community interests. Since it was formally constituted The Group and its activities have grown substantially. The Consultative Group exists to provide a means for local consultation between the police and the community on all matters relating to the policing of Colchester.
In particular, the objectives of the group are to:
| • |
work towards establishing a good relationship with the police and the community and maintain mutual trust; |
| • |
provide an arrangement for a joint involvement for preventing crime in the area; |
| • |
maintain a peaceful community within the Borough of Colchester; |
| • |
promote agreed solutions to local problems, both in the short term and in the longer term primarily through Neighbourhood Action Panels. |
