COMMUNITY ACTION

The Colchester Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership’s (CCDRP) aims are to continue building an even safer, just and tolerant society, protect the public and ensure the balance between the rights and responsibilities of individuals, families and communities is properly maintained.

The CCDRP, and its many partner agencies, is responsible for driving forward long term solutions to address crime reduction in Colchester but we can only deal with crime by working effectively with our communities. It is a key priority that we work effectively with local residents, businesses, students, young people, visitors and community groups to maintain a safe and vibrant Colchester. The CCDRP is keen to increase involvement from all of our communities and especially those who are affected by crime and disorder but have not had full access to our services or may be at risk of social exclusion.

We recognise that there are some excellent ideas being generated by our communities to make Colchester an even safer place in which to live, visit, study, learn and work. Some of these projects have been supported by the Community Safety Partnership’s funding scheme and delivered by local people who are committed to making a difference in their communities.

We acknowledge those who take the time to let us know what is not working and what has changed. This feedback, through consultation, public meetings, phone calls or e-mails is important as it lets us know where we need to improve services.

There are several ways that you can get involved via:

15 Neighbourhoods Action Panels

Neighbourhood Action Panels are led by a community panel of local residents, businesses, community leaders/groups, councillors, council officers, police, etc who are invited to join the Neighbourhood Action Panels and attend regular meetings to discuss the community safety and quality of life issues that matter to them and how best to resolve the problems raised.

For more information on where your local Neighbourhood Action Panel takes place, when and how to become involved or attend to report an issue please contact the CDRP Administrative Assistant on 01206 717819 or email Sonia Carr, Senior Community Safety Officer at sonia.carr@colchester.gov.uk

Police Community and Consultative Group (PCCG) which is part of the Essex Police Authority

The Consultative Group is an independent forum, comprising of representatives of a wide range of community interests. Since it was formally constituted The Group and its activities have grown substantially. The Consultative Group exists to provide a means for local consultation between the police and the community on all matters relating to the policing of Colchester.

In particular, the objectives of the group are to:

work towards establishing a good relationship with the police and the community and maintain mutual trust;
provide an arrangement for a joint involvement for preventing crime in the area;
maintain a peaceful community within the Borough of Colchester;
promote agreed solutions to local problems, both in the short term and in the longer term primarily through Neighbourhood Action Panels.
